Local International Cuisine Without A Passport
Cobb County & Surrounding Areas
Ready to take a trip to Tuscany? Plan your itinerary, pack your bags, buy your ticket, and go! ...Okay, so for a lot of us, between budgets and time off from work, international travel can take a lot more time and planning than that. But, even if you can't go around the world today in person, your tastebuds can! You don't have to drive very far to find quality international cuisine. We've polled, we've compared, and most importantly, we've tasted. And now, by popular demand, we present our selection of the top international restaurants in the Cobb County area, a "people's choice" list of the best local eats, with menus as diverse as your tastes.
Our Italian Pick: Scalini's Italian Restaurant
Serving the Atlanta metro area for 37 years and counting, Scalini's is an institution, and the voters know it! One of the restaurant’s biggest claims to fame is their list of "eggplant babies,” all born within 24 hours after their mother had eaten the famous eggplant parmesan. Scalini's knows more than just a little about seafood, marsala, antipasta, tiramasu, and many more Italian dishes from the Mother Land. The menu is chock-full of old reliable Italian stand-bys cooked with traditional recipes - because if it's not broken, don't fix it. Gluten-free? Scalini's prepares special offerings just for you. Pick the perfect wine and dig in. Prego!
Order Without Regret Tip: Chicken Ripieno. I repeat. Chicken Ripieno. Flavorful chicken is great - but when it's also stuffed with savory sausage, spinach, and cheese and covered in marinara sauce and melted mozzarella, served over spaghetti? Now, that's extra credit. Pairs well with all the fresh salad with house-made dressing and rolls dripping with garlic butter that you can possibly eat.

Our Indian Pick: Swapna Indian Cuisine
It doesn't get any more authentic than the North and South Indian options at Swapna since they import many ingredients and spices directly from India. Swapna draws native Georgians and Indian American patrons alike with their slow-cooked meats, original dal and pakora, and rich sauces, all served with hot basmati rice, served family-style. Even if you can't properly pronounce a menu item, try it! A Cobb staple for many years, Swapna now schools fans of biryani and baseball. Check out their vegetarian and meat-lover choices before heading to the Braves game at SunTrust Park.
Order Without Regret Tip: Start with the chicken tikka masala. Keep the garlic naan coming. Don't forget the vegetable samosas with chutney and mango lassi. There's always your second trip for the curry and tandoori choices. Or try visiting at lunch time to enjoy a variety on the all-you-can-eat buffet.

Our Mexican Pick: La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant
"Delicious Frozen Margarita" - the simple but effective statement currently on the marquee at the La Parrilla Restaurant located just off the Marietta Square. And they are. But this Mexican beverage-of-choice isn't the only reason La Parrilla made it to the Hall of Fame. Though there are many locations, don’t judge this one as just another chain restaurant! This is Southeastern Mexican cuisine. And it's done right. Whether you get the fajitas or the traditional tacos or the huevos rancheros, you will leave happy. The Margaritas are always cold, and the guacamole is always fresh. This is the only restaurant in our list that my own husband admits is, "close to my heart." If you haven't been to La Parrilla... why not?
Order Without Regret Tip: Start with the Sopa de Pollo. Get the traditional steak tacos on flour tortillas. They always have a balloon and Teddy Grahams ready as a parting gift for the kids. And seriously, don't forget the frozen strawberry margarita.

Our French Pick: Douceur De France, French Bakery & Cafe
Eat food how it was meant to be made - from scratch. If you're in the mood for brunch, lunch, or dessert, Douceur De France is a go-to spot. The menu features hot and cold sandwiches, omelets, crepes, soups, and salads with lots of premium additions like salmon, brioche, fromage, and ganache. But you don't have to know fancy French words to enjoy the decadent, buttery, flavorful selection at DDF. Chef Luc and his wife Danielle leave no detail unfinished on the menu. And though they've grown, expanded, and opened a new location, their flagship bakery here in Marietta has a unique charm.
Order Without Regret Tip: You really can't go wrong, but the quiches are raved about. Coffee-lovers won't be disappointed with the flavorful brew, and the croissants melt in your mouth. Don't miss the freshly-baked goods in the display counter on your way in (and again on your way out).

Our Chinese Pick: House of Chan
Don't let the modest exterior fool you. This place knows Chinese food. People travel from all over Atlanta for the generous, well-seasoned portions of seafood, egglant, beef, and chicken dishes at House of Chan. The menu is expansive and has all range of spice and adventure levels - from Beef Lo Mein to Szechuan Stir-Fried Squid in Black Bean Sauce. Seasonally, complimentary hot tea is provided at each table. Additional points awarded for the attentive, family-friendly service!
Order Without Regret Tip: Use the sweet and mustard sauces supplied at each table to their full potential: on the delicious egg rolls. Their hot and sour soup is not to be missed. Skip the Sweet and Sour Chicken - the Sesame Chicken is the entree of choice here. This dish is one of their hidden gems since it's not even on the menu. #yourewelcome
