We love this home! We wish we could take it with us!
We have enjoyed enhancing the landscaping and now enjoy the fruits of our labors. The mature trees include two pecans in the front yard and a copse of trees in the back yard. We have added a rain garden, planted with two Willow trees, Irises, Daylilies, Cardinal Flowers, and Cattails. A “living fence” now provides an attractive screen between our neighbors and habitat for the birds. The newer landscape consists of a diverse range of flowering plants including Azaleas, Black-eyed Susans, Butterfly Bushes, Chase Trees, Crepe Myrtles, Dogwoods, Gardenias, Hydrangeas, three varieties of Magnolias, Roses, and Rose of Sharon. In the summer, we enjoy early evenings visits to the butterfly garden, where we watch Tiger Swallowtails, Gulf Fritillaries, and hummingbird moths. We enjoy watching the many species of birds that visit our feeders throughout the year. We have created a lovely backyard wildlife habitat, and we are pleased that the newer construction of our house effectively keeps wildlife outside, where it belongs.
The exterior is a lovely craftsman style home with dormers and a wide front porch. It is attractively sided in low-maintenance, non-combustible fiber-cement board (Hardie Board or similar), with natural stone and white trim accents. We love drinking coffee on the front porch in the morning, listening to the cicadas in the evening, and watching the rain fall on summer afternoons. We spend a lot of time on this porch, which is screened with flowering vines and visited by hummingbirds and the occasional gecko.
We fell in love with the interior of this home at first sight. The 10 ft. ceilings were really attractive to my very tall husband—he doesn’t feel cramped here! We enjoy entertaining so we were looking for a big kitchen and dining room. We find our friends and family always want to gather in the kitchen. This kitchen is truly the most beautiful and functional space I have ever worked in. It is a pleasant place to visit, and with the two ovens, a warming tray, center gas cooktop, and microwave, there is plenty of room for family members to help with that big holiday meal.
We love having the very private and spacious master bedroom and bath on the first floor. We enjoy the Jacuzzi tub after a day of hiking on Kennesaw Mountain, and since we installed a tankless gas water heater, there is plenty of hot water to fill it.
I always wanted a spiral staircase and was so pleased to find one on the way up to the bonus room, where we keep a second TV and an exercise bike. I enjoy gazing into the boughs of Magnolia tree outside as I cycle away.
In the winter, I enjoy sitting in the west facing living room, where the “window wall” allows in the soft winter light and a view of the bird feeder. In the evening, I love reading a book in the ambiance of a crackling wood fire.
I appreciate having a separate room for the TV—it need not become the center of our lives!
We wanted to be close to work and Kennesaw Mountain. This area provides the ambiance of a semi-rural forest, with all the conveniences of being close to shopping and entertainment. It has worked well for us and we will truly miss it.
